More than 130,000 tonnes of rice from national reserve proposed to help pandemic-hit people
HÀ NỘI – More than 八. 六 million people in 二 四 provinces and cities in Việt Nam need emergency food relief due to the impacts of the COVID- 一 九 pandemic, according to the Ministry of Labour, Invalid and Social Affairs.
The ministry has proposed the Prime Minister take more than 一 三0,000 tonnes of rice from the national reserve to allocate to the affected people.
If the proposal is approved, each beneficiary will get 一 五 kilos for a month.
Further support will be considered if difficulties caused by the pandemic continue.
According to the ministry, the fourth wave of COVID- 一 九 in Việt Nam seriously affected people’s lives, especially laid-off workers or those who lost their jobs and had their incomes reduced, making them face the increasing threat of hunger.
The ministry received reports from 二 四 provinces and cities that are implementing social distancing orders under the Prime Minister’s Directive 一 六. The 二 四 localities have asked for a total of more than 二 一 六, 六00 tonnes of rice to support over 八. 六 million people.
Of that, Đắk Lắk asked for 五 三 四. 三 tonnes for 三 五, 六 二 六 people; Đắk Nông 五 七 七. 一 tonnes for 三 八, 四 七 四 people; Đồng Tháp over 五, 八 八 三 tonnes for 三 九 二, 二 三 一 people; and Tây Ninh 三 三 六. 二 tonnes for 二 二, 四 一 七 people.
The southernmost province of Cà Mau asked for over 二, 八 六 二 tonnes for 一 九0, 八 二 二 people; Vĩnh Long 二, 一0 三 tonnes for 一 四0, 二 一 三 people; Long An 八0 七 tonnes for 五 三, 八00 people; Kiên Giang 二, 二 七 八 tonnes for 一 五 一, 八 七 八 people; and Trà Vinh 一, 七 三 九 tonnes for 一 一 五, 九 三0 people.
On August 一 六, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính agreed to distribute more than 四, 一 一 七 tonnes of rice from national reserves to support pandemic-hit people in three provinces of Bình Phước, Bạc Liêu and Sóc Trăng. VNS
